You have to start somewhere
"We could sit around, bemoaning the fact that Shonda Sue doesn't have a major label deal," says Craig Moore, her father and business manager. "Or, we could do what we can to get her name and voice out there to potential fans. By being proactive, producing new projects and building a fan base, we are more likely to capture the attention of music industry executives than by playing local clubs or events waiting to be discovered. That may happen for some people, but why chance it."
Shonda Sue has been singing and recording since she was 8, when she recorded her first studio project, a country album aptly titled "I Love to Sing." That recording was the springboard for her singing career which now includes a repertoire of both country and contemporary gospel music.
At age 10, Shonda Sue released her second studio project, a gospel album called "Sweet, Sweet Land." The title track was one of several songs local songwriter Michael Van Vlymen provided Shonda Sue.
Her most recent release, a Nashville project called "Girl Thang," features "That's Love Enough," written by Van Vlymen, along with four additional originals she selected from more than 300 choices plus five cover songs.
The album, produced in Nashville by Dick McVey, was released in 2001 and the single, "Live While I Can," was released to the European and Australian markets in May 2002. The single was part of a compilation CD produced by Comstock Records Ltd.
"Since the release we have received requests from DJs overseas for the entire 'Girl Thang' album," says Craig. "Other tracks from the project have been receiving play alongside some famous artists like Faith and Reba - and some others, like Shonda, who have yet to be discovered."
"The Lord gave me this talent and He will determine which path I take - whether it is a career as country singer or a gospel performer. He has also blessed me with a tremendous amount of support from family and friends."
